1989 Pontiac 20th Anniversary Trans Am
The Firebird and Camaros of the 1980s don’t have much to brag about, as even their highest-output models hung around in the low-200-horsepower range, except one outlier. I am talking about the 1989 20th Anniversary Trans Am, which featured the turbocharged 3.8-liter V-6 from the then-discontinued Grand National.
The boosted V-6 injected 250 horsepower and 340 pound-feet of twist into the Trans Am, which netted it a 0-to-60 sprint of 4.6 seconds, a quarter-mile run of 13.4 seconds, and a top speed of 153 mph. Yeah, it stood out from the crowd a bit.
